🔍 The ADHD Coaching Process: Step-by-Step

A detailed guide to how ADHD coaching works—from first call to breakthrough moments.

🤔 Why Do People Turn to ADHD Coaching?

Most clients don’t seek coaching because everything is fine. They seek coaching because something isn’t working—and they’re ready for a change.
Maybe they’ve tried therapy, self-help books, productivity hacks, or medication… but nothing quite sticks. They know what to do, but they’re not doing it. That’s where ADHD coaching comes in.

People turn to ADHD coaching when they’re:

  • Tired of starting and stopping

  • Drowning in overwhelm, even when they “should” know what to do

  • Craving structure, clarity, and someone in their corner

  • Ready to build new skills—not just insight

Coaching isn’t a last resort. It’s a turning point.

🧭 What Does the ADHD Coaching Process Look Like?

Coaching is not a mystery, it’s a process. Here's what it typically looks like when we work together:

✨ Step 1: Discovery Call (Complimentary)

A no-pressure, 30-minute conversation to:

  • Get to know each other

  • Explore what you’re hoping to change or improve

  • Answer questions about how coaching works

  • Decide if we’re a good fit

If it feels aligned, I’ll invite you to take the next step. If not? No worries, we’ll part with clarity.

✨ Step 2: Onboarding & Coaching Agreement

We review:

  • Number and length of sessions

  • Coaching goals and focus areas

  • Payment, confidentiality, and communication expectations

  • My structure + your learning style

You’ll also complete a simple Client Intake Form + ADHD Trait Inventory to help us both understand how ADHD is showing up for you and what you want to shift.

✨ Step 3: Weekly or Biweekly Sessions

Most coaching sessions follow this rhythm:

  1. Agenda – You choose what we focus on (or maybe it’s a continuation of our last session or discussing homework I provided to complete between sessions that is helping identify certain patterns)

  1. Exploration – We dig into patterns, challenges, and strengths

  1. Action – You walk away with clear, realistic next steps

Along the way, we use tools like:

  • Session prep and recap forms

  • Values or goals worksheets

  • Systems planning templates

  • Reflection exercises

Sessions are collaborative and judgment-free. You bring the challenges. I bring the structure, strategy, and support.

✨ Step 4: Progress Check-Ins & Adjustments

We pause every few sessions to:

  • Revisit your goals

  • Celebrate what’s working

  • Shift focus if needed

  • Identify new growth edges

This keeps coaching flexible, responsive, and effective, especially for ADHD brains that thrive on momentum and novelty.

🛠️ Common Challenges ADHD Coaching Helps With

  • Procrastination and time blindness

  • Disorganization and inconsistent routines

  • Difficulty starting or finishing projects

  • Overwhelm with decision-making

  • Navigating career, relationships, or life transitions

  • Building emotional regulation and resilience

  • Clarifying identity, purpose, or motivation

You don’t need a formal diagnosis to benefit. If you relate to these patterns, coaching can help.

đź’¬ The Discovery Session: More Than a Chat

This complimentary session is where the magic begins. Together we:

  • Create a safe space for honest reflection

  • Explore where coaching might have the most impact

  • Identify what you want to change or create

  • Get a feel for how it would feel to work together

If it feels right, I’ll invite you to move forward:

“I’d love to work with you, I sense coaching could really make a difference.”

If it doesn’t feel like the right time or fit? That’s totally okay. Good coaching starts with alignment.

🔍 Questions to Ask When Choosing a Coach

Not all coaches are the same. Use these to help find your right fit:

  1. Are you a trained or credentialed ADHD coach?

  2. Do you understand ADHD and executive function?

  3. Who do you typically work with (age/focus)?

  4. What does a coaching session look like?

  5. How long does coaching take, and what are your rates?

  6. How do you help people stay accountable?

Trust your gut. A good coach will make you feel safe, seen, and supported.

🤝 Enrollment = Service

Inviting someone to become a client isn’t salesy, it’s a service. If coaching is a fit, I make the invitation clear and supportive.
You’re never pressured. You’re empowered.

🧠 What Coaching Is… and What It Isn’t

Coaching Is  Coaching Isn’t
A collaborative, forward-focused process  Therapy, consulting, or advice-giving
Rooted in curiosity, trust, and self-discovery  Focused on fixing or diagnosing
Structured and customized  Rigid or one-size-fits-all
Empowering and strengths-based  Judgmental or prescriptive

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s momentum.
And that starts with support that works for your brain
